Vienna - Transport - Metro

The Vienna underground (U-Bahn) system is the easiest way to get around the city and consists of five lines mostly running underground, with frequent trains running from around 5am till just after midnight (generally every 5 minutes during peak hours and about every 7/8 minutes off-peak)

The underground network is interconnected with the S-Bahn system, which is like an overground version of the U-Bahn, and with the Schnellbahn (suburban metro similar to the S-Bahn) an important complementary rail service also within the city.

All means of public transport also including trams (Straßenbahn) and buses can be used with the same ticket. The underground lines do not have any specific names but are identified by a colour and are just numbered, with an "U" (for U-Bahn) in front of the numbers.
