an impressive, clean and convenient public transport system. Underground
(U-Bahn), S-Bahn, tram (Straßenbahn) and buses assure reliable
transportation, as well as the latest generally fill in the gaps
where there are no trams or U-Bahn services such as the central
Innere Stadt and some outer suburbs.
Public transportation
mostly closes during night hours, but exists a network of night
buses (NightLine) which operates on the most important routes and
is a cheap alternative to taking a taxi, even if most of these buses
run only every thirty minutes.
Tickets can
be purchased from presale-ticket window (Vorverkaufsstellen), from
ticket machines (Automaten) at most U-Bahn stations, or from a tobacconist/newsstand
(Tabak-Trafik) and are valid for travel on any tram, bus, night
bus, metro train, S-Bahn or ordinary train within the city boundaries.
